He was born on January 1, 1969. In 1994 he graduated from the historical faculty of KazGNU named after al-Farabi. He began his scientific and pedagogical activity in 1998 as a teacher at the branch of the MGSU in Almaty. In 1999-2003, he was a research intern, graduate student, assistant at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. In 2003-2010, senior lecturer, associate professor of KazNPU named after Abaya. In 2011-2013, he was an associate professor at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. In 2014-2016, he worked as the rector of the U.A.Dzholdasbekov Academy of Economics and Law. In 2017-2020, he worked as a professor at the Department of Archaeology, Ethnology and Museology of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. In 2020-2021. He worked as the director of the RSE "Scientific Research Institute of Culture of Kazakhstan" of the ISS RK. Since September 2021, he has been working at the Department of History of Kazakhstan named afteracademician T.S.Sadykov. Since September 2022, he has been the dean of the Historical Faculty of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. D.S.Baigunakov is the holder of the International Scholarship "BOLASHAK" (2010); he completed a scientific internship at the University of Siena (Italy, 2010-2011), at the University of Hadjetepe (Turkey, 2013), at SGH University (Poland, 2015), at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage of Italy (Florence, 2018). He was the "Best university teacher" (2013), is an "Honorary Worker of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan" (2016). He is the author of about 200 scientific publications.
